I recently purchased my Avenger with the Boston speaker system. I wanted a DVD player but did not want to upgrade and pay the extra money for the My GiG radio.. After doing all the reading. The factory radio that came with it plays DVD's. I took my car to Tweeter and had the Alpine DVD player amounted int the headliner. It plays thru the radio either by putting a DVD in the radio or the built in RF mod.. I sounds great.. My loves it..

I see this was your first post so let me welcome you to the forumZ. If you have a digital camera, take some pictures of your system so the other members can see it. We might have a member that wants to try that install on their Avenger.

You can load it as an attachment. Look for the procedure in Additional Options under the window you type your replies in. You can upload your pictures into photobucket.com and then paste your pictures in replies.

KLS, do you have a sunroof in your avenger? Did they mount the dvd where the rear seat overhead lighting is?

Could you please tell me what type of factory radio you have (single disc, 6, etc)

yes I have the sunroof in my car.. I have the REQ. 6 disc cd/dvd radio.. it is standard on the r/t

yes they removed the dome light set up and mounted the DVD there.. they had to add to the support a little. but they made it work.

I have the sunroof and rear seat stock DVD set, it flips up from the center console. It also has split screen (two channel), wireless headseats & a remote. It can be programmed at the main mygig screen also. lol, haven't used it yet.

I would not have minded getting the stock one.. But I did not want to have to pay for the upgrade radio.. I dont know why they changed that for model year 2008.. when the car first cam out earlier this year you did not have to do that...

Some day I might get the stock one (its the only thing I DIDN'T get on my car lol) but its nice to know this can be done if I rather not. :)

for the cost of the stock one w/o installation...I had this installed in my car.. Plus this being an Alpine says something else... and it has a 10 in screen rather then the 7 that comes stock... I considered having screens mounted in the backs of the seats.. but that would have cost a bit more... and might not have looked as good

For the rear ves? Already? What kind of prices are you seeing?

I also wonder if you add in the rear ves if you can keep the padded armrest, I heard with the rear ves its not as padded or comfortable or something? Anyone confirm this?

I have looked a couple place online... I have found the factory armrest on for about 1200.... you can get it with or w/o the heated cup holders.....

the stock console with the flip-up dvd is a hard surface & not alot of storage room underneath this. has the heater/cooler though. the stock dvd set came in at $1200 CDN (must be about $15000 for you guys now huh ? lol).

this was a fully-loaded (except nav), off the lot, didn't even bring it for a test drive, I knew i wanted it. figure i'll keep a play-all-day station in the trunk for when i get the urge to try it.

Ahh...gotcha. Guess I (we) deserve that crack now lol....canadians didn't find it so funny back when I used to say in reply to whatever amount they asked for "oh so thats like 50 cents american, right?" lol...its all good. :)

Hello, has anybody tried to hook an aftermarket LCD to the REQ radio? It is suppose to play DVD? Just curious if it might work?

Yes the REQ radio plays DVD, however.. the radio does not come with the wiring harness for the monitor. when I had min installed they had to use pin connectors to the radio wiring harness for the video to send out. it was not a regular RCA out put.

I guess that would have been to easy to have an RCA jack on the radio. Maybe somebody will figure out the wiring harness issue. I was thinking it would be good to put a small monitor up front somewhere. I didn't want to spend the $1500 for the factory monitor.

actually you can do a search online.. and find it... there was also something on the Nitro forum....i found 3 different schematics..

ok.. found it.... go to the dodge nitro forum.... go under interior audio and video there is a thread that talks about the REQ radio pinouts.... the info is there. that is what i used

Thanks found alot of info on the other forum. I am picking up my uconnect kit tomorow. I am thinking of installing it myself and save the labor charge of hooking it up. I guess I'll decide in the morning. Have a good one.

that looks great. I hesitated with the stock DVD setup because I was worried about the unit holding up over time. That unit looks like something I would consider.

it does work good. and the stereo in the Avenger is nice as well.. I do have one problem with mine. having the sunroof played a factor in placement.. there is a little play in it from the cross beam. it also does rattle.. However i have talked to Tweeter (who installed it).. They are gonna to take care of it...All and all I am happy with it and so is my son

Bad news for the overhead DVD. It is coming out... it rattles and there is no way they can get it ti stop. Have had it there a couple times.. sooooo.. now a new head liner and domelight... call ed the dealer... they rear dome light (LED).. may be $300... sounds crazy.. anyone know where to find it cheaper?

Maybe try cleveland pick a part? I dunno if they have any mashed up avengers yet, but its a start. :)
