For those that want to watch TV while driving, Navtv.com has an interface that'll bypass the factory settings... I haven't tried it but after searching a few other forums for solutions, here's what I've found. For those that have the mygig system, you may want to check your software version and upgrade... I did mine today, moved from version (9.4xx) to the latest application software update (v9.561). I've noticed a few changes and the file uploaded with ease. Here is source for the link I'm posting Nitroforumz.com - Click Here (http://www.nitroforumz.com/showthread.php?t=7658). Download the zip file, unzip the file, copy the three files to a CD or a USB device that holds over 580MB file space. Place the disc in the mygig system and follow the prompts and in about 10 minutes you're done.

Here are a few changed I've noticed right off the back. The warning "Accept" prompt goes away automatically, less than 5 seconds. On my system, the Jukebox (JB), HDD, and Disc tabs are rearranged. (HDD, JB, Disc) The tab for the rear DVD video is no longer there. -- Enjoy

The file is quite large, 362.2MB and will take some time to download. Unzip the files to your Hard drive and burn them to a quality CD data disc:

1. Data Disc name needs to be NTG4_9.561

2. Root directory MUST contain only one folder and two files:

BECKER (folder)
CD_INFO.CDI
CONFIG.CDI

Watching TV while driving would be one of more dangerous habits to get into.

Officer I did not noticed that the vehicle had stop bececause I was watching TV.

It's more for the passengers. My girl, her daughter etc... niece and nephews to watch when I take road trips etc... Although my purpose is for passengers, I still don't see the difference between being able to glance at a DVD, navigation, Satellite radio options etc...

When I did the update, the software disc would not come out when I pushed the open/close button. Once I parked at my friend house, came back outside maybe about 10 minutes later, hit the button and the disk came out.

When using the remote start, if I don’t unlock the driver door before I open the trunk the car cut off… and I know that’s normal. But sometimes when I start the car up after that happens, the radio will turn on but no sound from a source will come out (HDD, Disc, Sat, AM/FM). Again I have to turn the car off for a minute or two before the radio works again.

I’ll update with anything else I find.

What a terrible experience; I have never dealt with a more unprofessional company in my life.

Long story short, the second FreeGIG came in and was just as messed up as the first one. It also had another $100 delivery charge. At first I refused delivery and after days of calling between UPS and Nav-TV I was able to get the shipping charge down to $23 only to find out that it was more money wasted.

After contacting Nav-TV and asking for a refund, as well as an account number that I could charge the return shipping fees to, I was YELLED AT by their dumbass employees and made to feel like this was somehow MY fault.

I questioned them as to whether or not they even TESTED this product for an Avenger, and after dancing around the question they finally admitted that they have NOT... their engineer just "figured it would probably work".

Nice for them to tell me AFTER I've already tossed $470+ at this stupid thing.

I just shipped back both products today and am in talks with the Better Business Bureau to go after these jerks for all of the money I wasted buying a product that was sold to me in bath faith.

If Nav-TV wants to continue playing hard-ball, I think a call to my lawyer is coming next.

I have the email address for the head of engineering over at Harmon Becker, as well as one of the other engineers there. They are more than willing to help with problems on the MyGig and will even send out software updates via fedex if necessary.

Lucky for me, they are only 10 minutes away hehe.

For some reason, probably because this is 2007 and these cars are 2008, I don't think the updates are going to the dealers right away. I think they are updating and sending to the plants, and later on next year the dealer may get the updates.

I also know that sometime in the end of december, beginning of january, there will be another update. I have a motorola Q and the bluetooth doesn't work all that great with it, but hopefully the engineers over at HB will improve on that in the next update.

Love MyGIG... But, I've got realy concerns with the navigation portion of the system. This thing finds practically nothing where I'm needing to go. For example - grocery store is right across the street (been there a LONG time). MyGIg, can't find it - but it does find one with the same name 400 miles away! :i_rolleyes: Don't get me wrong - the locations it does find, it gets me there no problem - turns are accurate, etc. Does anyone know how/when/if there will be or are updates for the NAV component of MyGIG???

I was having the same problem....i brought it back to the dealer and they downloaded newer software....it works great now...before that iw ould put something in and it would tell me to drive to Michigan....lol:doh:

Thanks ZOdiak. I have an appt. at the dealer for a factory warrantied upholstery repair on the 26th. I'll ask them about that then and post how things go. Thanks for your input. If anyone else has ideas or solutions, let me know...

I really need to do that also. I have the same exact problem.. I can't even find the local grocery store, but I can find one in Texas.

I do have one other problem with regards to the navigation. I work on a military base and the navigation always tries to get me to go through the north gate instead of the main gate. Even when it is obvious the main gate is much shorter and quicker. At first I thought it's because they think there is no entrance at the main gate, but instead of telling me to make a u-turn at the last corner it will then re-route me correctly after I pass the last turn.

Any ideas?

Have you played with the routing options? You can change the routing options from quickest route, shortest route, maximize freeways, etc.

Yes, I love mine now that they updated the software. Its something they dont think about when selling the car to you. once you get the new software you will be set.

So has anyone had success with the modding so they can watch DVDs while they drive? I'm suprised they don't have it as an option. Also, any word on a mod for searching the nav system while driving? Looking for a new place to eat with my girlfriend and she can't scroll through the menus because I'm driving.

I am not a proud owner of the Dodge avenger YET but, will be soon. I was wondering about the My Gig feature... The comercials says that the My Gig feature is not offered in all states. Can anybody tell me the list of states and why they would not be offered?

I just got my Avenger 2 days ago. The nav system won't work. It just keeps saying that the system is starting. I can copy any music to the hdd, and the voice recognition won't work. It almost seems like the hard drive is missing or not connected. My dealer cant look at it for several more days and it is getting me a bit upset. (They only have 1 mygig certified tech.)

Has anyone else had problems like this or know of a solution other that dealer service?

I think they may mean just the dvd playback part. In some states you can't watch a dvd at all on the mygig. In other states you can watch it but only while in park.

It might be in "demo" mode, so you may want to mention that to them and see if they can get it out of demo mode. Or it may just need a software update. Harmon Becker makes the unit and I currently have a email into one of thier engineers to see if there are any new software updates yet. I'll let you know as soon as I hear from them but it may be a couple days because of the holidays and such...

The dealership can fix this: it is a software issue with the HDD crashing, a known problem but still one new to many dealers.
Once the fix is applied everything works great again.
A major software update is planned for mid-January.

A number of states don't allow front seat video at all. I suspect that yours may be one of those as your dealer disabled the video before delivery. You may want to verify with them if front seat video is allowed by the state.

I know that Florida doesn't allow front seat video and my dealer said it would be disabled but it wasn't. If I'm going to watch a video in the car, I'll be using our 17" HP laptop which has much better video then the 6.5" screen on the MyGIG.

I also wanted to know why I don't get traffic information. It is activated in the options, but I'm not getting the information. Any ideas?

I would try a new dealership.

As for the traffic updates....you mean you don't get any at all? Or you don't see them show up on the nav? I've noticed that some show on the nav and some don't, but I almost always have a list when I look right into the traffic button on the touch screen. Maybe yours isn't activated for some reason, or may need a software update on the radio? I would call sirius first and see what they say..

I was wondering if anyone has tried this. I have ordered the My Gig without the Nav., and I was thinking. Isn't the Nav. part of my gig just a software, and an antenna change? I mean, if someone got their hands on the Nav software, and flashed it, couldn't they upload it into the base My Gig. If I am correct, the only difference in the wiring harness would be the extra antenna wire, if there is one. It may be a built in thing.

Any ideas?

I can ask the harmon becker guys when I see them in a couple of weeks. I'm pretty sure there is different hardware in the unit which controls the nav. I recall seeing a post somewhere (not sure if here or not) that told of being careful not to try and flash the w/o nav units with the wrong software, or it could turn it into a brick. It was either that or that the w/o nav units wouldn't accept a flash of the with nav software.

I have the last release of nav software on a disc from H/B. They had no problem just giving it to me, so I assume there must be some reason you can't put it on the regular mygig units that don't have nav. Otherwise I would expect them to be more careful who they gave it to.

Hello!

Typically the MyGig comes with either Nav (Infotainment) or with the 20GB of hard disk space (Entertainment). It may be a bit more complicated to ad navigation to your MyGig system because the Navigation is run through the satellite radio (and is on subscription). Most 2007 Chrysler models that had navigation did not have MyGig, and navigation was ran off a separate disk drive. I have had a few customers who purchased an aftermarket navigation system and have managed to integrate it with their Mygig system (like a TomTom for example), using the "Aux" jack, or even the AC Outlet.

Anyway, I'll ask around and see if I could get some more info for ya.

I am not too sure about this statement. I was told by the dealer that NAV was only offered on the My Gig system. I have read elsewhere that it uses the same hard drive but has a smaller space for extras. I will check around, but I really don't see anyone giving out the information because they want you to spend the extra money on the NAV system. :doh:

I have also read that the update for the Nav will not work if you don't have Nav, obviously. So, can anyone get the software that is used on a new install? I doubt it can happen. I can ask and see what they say, but I won't be talking to them until after MLK day, which should be around the time of the next update.

As for how the dealer would do it? Not sure. They may just swap units out and then send the malfunctioning ones back to HB as warranty work...

Almost down at the bottom of the page is this:

Does that mean that the dealer can get this disc? Is this disc the OEM install software? Anybody that works in the Service department may be able to find out for sure... Also, there is no cost listed for this.

Anyone can get the disc. I have the disc. There should be no charge for it, so if a dealer ever tryed, tell them you are not paying and get with Harmon Becker yourself.

My concern is that aside from the external GPS antenna and sirius satellite stuff, there is some internal hardware that goes along with it. They just arn't going to include the GPS hardware needed inside the unit for free but load it with software that doens't use it. That doesn't happen, period.

I work in the automotive supplier industry. We have parts that have mulitple levels and even though with the right level software you could disable some features, you don't ship them with all the components for everything. Its all about penny pinching. If you can save .05 cents here or there, you save it.

I understand where your coming from, its like a pc, just a software upgrade, but I really don't think thats how they do it. Either way, I will ask around and see, but don't get your hopes up.

I think there is a link here or on another forum (nitro one maybe?) that someone has posted the cd for download. You could d/l and try, but do so at your own risk. It may turn your radio into a brick.

Ok I got all the info you need. This is the top level stuff, so rest assured it is accurate.

I told him of your situation, this was his response to it:


Your friend has a nonNav radio called a REN - no way possible to get it to navigate. The guts are entirely different. That is why he paid about $700 for the REN and you paid $1700 for the Nav variety called RER.


I also asked him about my situation with the size of the HDD of the radio, this was his response to that:


Model Year (MY) 07 has a 20 GB HDD
MY08 has 30 GB HDD

Yes Navigation and the look up tables for POI (15 million for the USA) takes 10 GB
Gracenote another 1 GB
Cache memory for ripping about another 1 GB

SO you get 8 GB on a MY07 car
and people get about 14.7 GB (note 30 GB HDD is not really 30 GB but only about 25 GB)



I am still working on why my HDD is less than it should be. Now I am somewhat PISSED at the dealer, because I bought a MY08 car, the sticker says MY08 and therefore I should have about 14.7 GB of free space, instead of 8 GB. I am awaiting a response from HB about this, before I roll to the dealer and start reaming people out.

Nothing other than this as of yet. But from those I've talked to "in the know" it can be done and has full functionality of everything while playing the DVD. However, it won't ever be released to the public for fear of lawsuits and such. This thing from coastal seems about the best thing going aside from having the actual software. I don't think anyone has ever tryed this product yet though.

Seems like because of my HD size issues, I am going to have to go back to the dealer, emails in hand, and explain they gave me the mygig radio out of an 07 model instead of an 08. I can only imagine the headache this is going to create. And according to HB, they cannot put a 30gb hdd in mine because of hardware changes to the HDD on the master - slave pin.

WOW :158: I think you may have a handful there. I understand that having a front mounted DVD player can be a problem, but the reason why I would like mine to work is for my passengers. I suppose it is not a big deal to just pull over and watch it, but it would be nice to at least let them watch it. AvengerRT, is there any way to get your hands on the 'Full' software? I can sign a disclaimer, or just never open my mouth about it... ;) Let me know what you can do, if anything!

I agree with you Sphinx. It would be nice. Can you imagine the lawsuits that would pour in when people started sayin that the dvd player caused them to have an accident. I don't even wanna think about the lawyer trying to defend Chrysler over that.

Sphinx, they won't release it to anyone. Its not a matter of full software, its just some bits flipped somewhere in it to allow it to work. At least thats what I have heard. The database, especially POI's, are not great compared to other GPS I've owned. Does anyone know if a GPS database update is/will be available? I updated the software to 9.561, which doesn't help with the mapping data. My database is RS6-N 106 0642.

There is no update for map data currently available. If/when there is it'll come from Navteq. Other cars I've owned in the past that received updates from them cost $99-$199 depending on the make etc.

It's also hard to tell exactly how up to date our info is because with a diskless setup we don't get the case that has the date stamped on the reverse side.

One thing I should mention is, on a Jeep forum, I read about Navteq supposedly giving away a map update as a prise at some event late last year. Hopefully that means something is at least in the works as I have major streets that have been around for years that are missing in my area.

I was wondering if you can add for example speed-controls (POI) into it. You can do it with Tom-Tom, so it should be able with the MyGIG?

I honestly haven't played enough with the poi's to know if you can add them or not. I will try and remember to mess with it soon, and if I talk to the HB guys I will bring it up to them and see what they say. :)

Ok here is the official word on POI's:


POI - yes there are two ways to save them. First is in the Address Book. Press MENU-MyFiles-MyAddress Book select a FOLDER like DEFAULT - Press ADD-Create a new Contact- give it a name - save - edit contact - add address- select Point of interest and finish finding and saving the POI - KIND OF LONG, huhh The other way is to go to the POI and then WHERE AM I NOW and save the geo coordinate in Favorites.

I don't think you can import a complete list. I'll toss that at them next time I talk to them.

Sounds like the best way for you Brononi is the address book. Looks like once you get to "create a new contact" just keep inputing the additional contacts. Best of luck!!

That was probably done through a Starscan. You would need to find someone that can starscan if for you, which if it is state law, you won't find a dealer that is willing to do it.

It has to be starscanned to be that way. I think if say you moved to another state that didn't have the law, they could revert it for you.

I've been in touch with Harman Becker and they provided me with the following information:

Within the next week, updates will be sent out via mail directly to customers. In order to receive this update, you will need to email myGIG@Harmanbecker.com - please provide your concerns/requests within the email. Basically they are only giving the updates to people who have real issues with the system (those that don't have concerns about anything will not receive an update)

Once contacted back, you will need to provide your mailing address and Y/M/M of your avenger - you will then be added to the mailling list.

So far I only received an update on the NAV system, I am waiting for the REN system (w/o NAV) - but these are the new features on the NAV software:

SW version 9.713

Graphics accelerator on Navigation Map (faster 3 D map view)
Bluetooth driver update (Helps UConnect issues with CDMA phones i.e. Motorola v3)
Faster POI lookup
Wrangler Microphone enable (need to buy a microphone separate)
Import compressed music and play back songs from same album in Track Order
Addition of Traffic Speed and Flow (Overlaid on Nav Map – Green = free flow, Yellow = Slow, Red Stopped) usually only available on interstate in select cities
Samsung HDD firmware update to prevent Master Cylinder Corruption (only if needed)
Several bug fixes (Missing SAT presets)
Improved SW application update process

I have the NAV and I'm looking forward to the update. I hope Sirius Traffic starts getting traffic flow data for Orlando soon. They've been putting up sensors that read our toll tags so I know the data is out there.

Just so you know, sirius traffic isn't all it could be. I have it here, and you can see stuff like accidents, and road closures, but it doesn't always show "slowed" traffic. And it doesn't seem to update all the fast either.

I'm stumped. When I use a jump drive to copy songs to HDD on MyGig, it only copies half the songs (840 of 1550) All show as MPEG 3 format. It is the same songs that won't copy each attempt.
However, if I take the same file and put them on a CD, it will copy them to HDD.
Ayone run into this problem?

It may be that those mp3s are a different bitrate not supported by the MyGig.

No clue ejeffrjr. I have v 9.712 - not installed though, and I'm waiting on the mail to deliver 9.713 to me. I have 9.561 and I haven't had any issues moving files from jump drive to hdd, other than one of my jumpdrives seems not to want to be recoginized by the system.

If I get a chance to make it over to HB, maybe next week, I'll inquire about that. I was going to go their this week, but got called over to ford the last two days. For a ms sync radio issue...go figure lol.

Well I got version 9.713 in the mail yesterday. It also came with gracenotes updates. I would say it probably has a quirk or two, but so far it seems to work a ton better than 9.561. Also, from the appearance of it, I think this will probably be the final update for the RER radio, or one of the final updates. I think it went almost 2 or 3 months past what the release date was supposed to be, so I'm guessing there won't be many more updates, unless they are much later on.

I wonder though, if they broke the mygig lockpick with this update. I'm sure that company will come up with a work around if they did, but if you have that and are about to update, I would be wary.

I also found a pretty nice site (unofficial) containing all the updates for RER and REN radios including instructions to date, so the 9.713 is on there as well as the gracenotes.

Edit: I forgot to add, the coolest part of the update so far is the the traffic flow data. It actually colors the map green/yellow/red on the roads that submit traffic flow data to sirius. So thats pretty cool. 696 was green this morning, but I could see as I passed I 75 that part of it was yellow, which would make sense.

Nope - I updated to v9.713 yesterday and Lockpick still works just fine. :smiley_thumbs_up:

I really don't think they can do any software mod to disable it anyway. The Lockpick is a hardware device that fools the MyGIG before the signal even reaches it. As far as the MyGIG is concerned, when the Lockpick is enabled (toggle it via the on/off power button twice) the vehicle is in park.

My wife and I just bought new vehicles yesterday...she upgraded from the 2006 Dodge Caravan I bought her 18 months ago to a 2008 Dodge Caravan with added features for a small percentage more than what we were already paying. She has the MyGIG in it and it WILL NOT pair with our iPhones. She has the 4GB model and I have the 16GB model, yet nothing. We've upgraded our phones with current software and looked into the site listed above. I called UConnect and they advised me not to use the CD install but to take it back to the dealer this week and let them do the update. All I know is we have expensive phones and expensive equipment in our vehicles and they don't work with one another...the latest update does resolve the iPhone issue but they wouldn't give me version numbers. Blech! I'm tempted to try the CD fix just because, but since I pick my car up Wednesday from the dealership I think I'll just have her go with me so we can let them do it and I won't have to worry with anything.

If they can't do it, I'll do the method above, it looks promising and I can't wait to get it to work with my iPhone.

I'm willing to bet the dealer will not update the software for free. I think there's something in the warranty that states flash updates, etc., are not covered.

I also doubt that the dealer has the lastest and greatest version that was just released.

The dealership ordered the update yesterday and said it'll be in Saturday. Too impatient to wait my wife and I updated both of our systems with the update we found on Apple's forum and they work great. I'll pick-up the update from the dealership Monday afternoon and see if it's a more recent update, if not, I'm quite happy with the current one. Thanks for the help, everyone. We both can vouch that the update works.

You might want to wait a few more days, since I read that there's another update in the works. Some people are having volume related problems with v9.713 that they didn't have previously. I'm running 9.713 and everything is fine.

Also having mygig problems. The NAV system seems to take forever to find anything. When I hit Point of Interest and then Resteraunt, I feel like the system hangs up. Once it took seconds to list the different types of food, then seconds to list available resteraunts in the area. Now it takes MINUTES, literally. Is this something I did or can fix? HELP!!!!!!

My 08 Avenger came with version 9.807 installed, all seems well and fine, i myself installed the latest version of gracenotes the 1120 version. i wasnt sure if it would work on a european model, but after i managed to get it on a dvd (turn off multi sessions or else it doesn't work!) the console resetted and it all seems to be working fine!

ok i got some issues with the mygig system. since we got our car back in november 07 we have only had 1 update. Also mygig will not download my burnt cds anymore and then it starts acting funny and not wanting to open or eject the cd. the other problem is the thing just doesnt feel like working out of the blue the screen is back and u hear no sound. is it me or is there something wrong with my system?
