View Full Version : Building my new exaust.
Quiet Lunatic 04-18-2008, 02:48 AM I am building a new exaust to replace the muffler and back. Instead of useing a "Y" pipe like Z's I am building a 1 in 2 out custom chamber. I hope to finish this weekend. I will see about posting pics and sound clips when i am done. I am at the 1/2 way piont now. Chamber is 90% finished.
Bullet85 04-18-2008, 08:10 AM I also seen an avenger with the stock muffler the baffles cut out and it sounds nice...yea keep us posted on ur work...thanx
Quiet Lunatic 04-19-2008, 03:38 PM OK well finaly got all the parts so now it is just pull old, cutting pionts and aline tweek and final welding. Going slower than planned due to only working on breaks now. :( can't work on it on days off.
Quiet Lunatic 04-22-2008, 01:45 AM Here are pic's of the new can and rear section. I have to weld the factory crome tips and hangers on and weld to front inlet pipe. You can see the splitter I added to inside 1/2 way back (like original Flow Master's) and the end plate ports.

Quiet Lunatic 04-22-2008, 07:56 AM I can't wait to hear this Rich :)
delavenger 04-22-2008, 08:51 AM Does anyone know if there is a wave file or mpeg of what the 2.7 sxt engine sounds like with flowmaster or other mufflers. I dont want to install something and have my ride sound like a tin can honda
markio 04-22-2008, 09:24 AM If you go with a flowmaster or magnaflow, I don't think it will sound like a fartcan. I can't say the same for any other muffler, but I have heard of people putting one of those 2 on and liking the sound. They said it was a rumble, not a fart. lol
Sphinx 04-22-2008, 01:57 PM Looks like you are making some great progress! I can't wait for the results!

I build my own muffler on same threory as a original Flow Master with the splitter to roll the flow and cause the flow to crash together and add a thump. With the cinfined space I didn't want to go with 2 - 90 deg. angles so I build my own and was able to make 1 angle a 45 deg. as you see with pics.
josho66 04-23-2008, 02:22 PM I went with Magnaflow with my 2.4 and it doesn't sound like a fartcan.
Quiet Lunatic 04-26-2008, 02:40 AM  Finished my exhaust tonight. Sounds like a traditional Flow Master on a 8 cyl. at idle. :smiley_thumbs_up: (Remember I build a MINI Flow Master with 1 in 2 out) No leaks, had a co-worker follow me after work. He cell phoned me to tell it sounded sweet and controled on hard take off and crewsing speed. (NOT like a fart can) He also said from behind following me it looked factory and the muffler I build sat centered with even flow out each pipe. There is a little drone in car but nothing loud I have had old school cars have a lot lot worce. In drive you can hear the quick multi shifts more clearly, but don't sound bad or doggy. I will try post a wave file tomarow and installed pics. The latest on Sun.

Chrismust 05-26-2008, 10:54 AM I wish I had 1/8 of Rich's talent.....If I did i'd be under the car right now
whitewolf359 06-04-2008, 08:18 PM Rich what is the length of your muffler body?
Quiet Lunatic 06-05-2008, 02:38 AM Rich what is the length of your muffler body?
I build the muffer body at 10" long, 3" high and 6" wide. The inside is build like the original single chamber Flow Master with a flow splitter to acheave the flow crash to sound like a 8 cyl. (thunder crash effect) and yet at shift pionts and hard exeleration a good controled sound. Down shifts no rapping just good hard controled rumble. Since I build it I have had a couple people ask me "How the heck did you get a Avenger with a 8 in it?" and a couple people (obvesly not car buffs) say " Nice sounding Charger." lol

LOL funny story. THanx for the info. In your opinion would a muffler with a slight bit longer length fit back there and still make a dual tailpipe setup without to drastic of a bend?

NO not at all not a single. duels maybe or a glass pack below the rear seats but then you risk the deep rumbele sound and get more of the import small engine sound do to less flow going threw each muffler. I have maybe 1" clearance between my muffler and the crossmember for rear axle area. I did a lot of looking and lissoning for a set up with the sound I was looking for didn't find anything thats why I designed and build my own. The video's I posted don't do the sound justice, I tried to make new ones but just don't sound same on video as in real life. There are some nice sounding set up out there but just not what I was shooting for. I am old school and love the rumble wagon sound. You being 35 and from Det. should know what I mean by that. 2 more weeks and we are back home in WI. :)
By the way you have 24" to play with from the rear cross member to the rear pipe hangers to stuff all the bendes and a muffler in lol Have fun lol Another reason I just designed my own.
Can't wait to see pics and hear the wav's....you're torturing us!!
Quiet Lunatic 06-17-2008, 06:06 PM if you look in my postes there are multi pics and a couple sound waves.
Found the threads with the videos! Very nice! Pm'ed ya Rich! :D
