Chrysler LLC, which is launching its first hybrid vehicles (http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080530/BUSINESS01/805300312/1014#) this year, is already looking at the possibility of expanding its offerings into other vehicles, an executive for the automaker said Thursday.

Asked if the recently launched Dodge Journey SUV could see a hybrid engine in the future, he indicated that they're looking at that option and noted that they've also heard interest in a hybrid version of the Dodge Avenger midsize sedan (http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080530/BUSINESS01/805300312/1014#).
Chrysler's entrance into the hybrid market is expected to occur this summer with the 2009 Chrysler Aspen and Dodge Durango Hemi Hybrid SUVs.
The automaker has said it expects its new 5.7-liter Hemi hybrid to get a 25% overall fuel economy (http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080530/BUSINESS01/805300312/1014#) improvement.

Sounds promising. For those who may not know, the Journey and Avenger share the same chasis and engine. if they are willing to put a hybrid in place for the Journey, that may mean an Avenger is also in the works.

you are correct they are the same chasis and engine. Look at the front of both vehicles they are very similar. I remember reading an article a while back and at first I thought no way, so looked it up and yep they were.

I wouldn't mind a hybrid Avenger.
Would prefer a Tesla roadster though.

Hmm hybrid Hemi. :)

A Hybrid Avenger/Journey is a good idea but seems like a waste for large SUV's. The large SUV market is hopefully going the way of the dino's, people really need to take this problem seriously about finding alternate fuels.

Chrysler needs a to develop a small car platform perhaps utilizing the Caliber platform. Will that Demon concept ever come to the market?

I kinda doubt the Demon will come out due to the fact that Chrysler has to watch their MPG across the board. The goverment regulations on making cars produce a certain minimum rating on MPG has them thinking about the future of some cars like the Viper and some of the HEMI engins. Unless Chrysler can produce the hybrids fast enough some of a favorite gas guzzling cars may disappear for awhile so that Chrysler can prove they are making their quota on gas comsuption in their lineup.
