View Full Version : Non Car Hobbies?
AvenDanger 06-13-2008, 08:20 AM What does everybody like to do when they are not playing around with their cars? Please include pics if you have them.
I shoot archery. I used to bowhunt a lot, but lately it's been more work than fun, so now I just shoot targets. Here's a pic of my target bow.
Now it's your turn! Let's all see what you do with your free time!

Nice!! I just got one of those for Xmas, my wife got it for me. I play some, don't have a ton of time with my 3 y/o to play but it is fun. I like to watch Blurays also!!!
For none car stuff I workout, coach/watch the kids sports and just spend time with my family. Like to golf but the prices around me are crazy and just don't have the time.
Quiet Lunatic 06-13-2008, 12:19 PM In the winter, I hibernate and play video games. In the summer, I do more outdoors type stuff most of it work, not really hobbies, and still play video games, but I also do my side business stuff but that's more of a job now than a hobby :p
Quiet Lunatic 06-13-2008, 02:13 PM 1,000 yard shooting with an 1874 45-125 Sharp's rifle. I also shoot mid range (600yrds) using a 44-100 Sharp's. It's alot of fun shooting long range with your great grandfather's rifle's. He was a true Buffalo hunter back in the 1870's. I will post a pic of the rifles later, after my grand daughters are gone home.

DM6156 06-15-2008, 10:06 PM I've dabbling a little in woodworking, building up my tool collection. I still have a couple more to buy before i can really get into making quality stuff. I do a lot of picture frames.
I also like doing home improvement. I am currently looking into pulling all my carpet on the lower level of my house and installing some hardwood floors. Ah and saving money to buy all of the materials. Another justification of all the tools LOL
Recently I've redone all of the faucets in the bathrooms and kitchen, replaced all of the toilet handles and working on replacing the innards of all of the toilets too. Father-in-law helped me build a couple of stand alone shelves with 2 drawers on the bottom of each to sit beside my fireplace. The drawers will be for DVDs and the shelves for pictures, books, etc.
I haven't gone as much as I'd like, but I do enjoy fishing. I do volunteer work with Trout Unlimited. I'm on the list for BASS ACT which is warm water volunteer work, so far all of the projects have been lakes far away from home when I can't get away to help. I also fly fish and tie my own flies.
I've been helping my wife do gardening - you know she picks the flowers/plants and I do all of the hard manual labor LOL. She does what she can and I do the heavy stuff. We've broke 2,000 lbs of flag stone to line the flower beds. yanked up 12-15 bushes and layed about 25 piece of sod. I've moved about 1500 lbs of dirt from the local lake (they dredged it and it's free soil if you move it by hand). I've got about 75 square feet of brush to deal with - giving the old gas trimmer and work out this year.
Even with sucky gas prices, there's still a need for a gas guzzling 4x4 truck.

I will post a pic of the rifles later, after my grand daughters are gone home. Some of those old rifles are beautiful. I remember reading about Sharp rifles and the Civil war. They were used by "Sharpshooters". I also read that during the war they didn't think it was worth upgrading the soldiers rifles from percussion (Money). Anyone who has seen how slow a percussion rifle is to load knows by the time you load etc. your dead. That has to be a beautiful rifle. You're family history has to be fascinating. I would love to see pictures.
Quiet Lunatic 06-15-2008, 11:00 PM I am the sort of person who might go from one interest to another. It could be gaming and upgrading my computer for that. Reading computer magazines on it and researching it. I like looking for new things for my car and detailing it. Civil war odd facts and civil war artifacts. I was into freshwater fishing for awhile. I'm always finding something new to look up. So it's not always a set thing that I'm into. I remember my husband and I bought these crow and owl decoys. We also bought the a crow, hawk, and owl callers. We'd set them up where the crows were in the woods and did the distress call for crows. Then do either the hawk or the owl. Ofcourse we had a fake owl out there. The crows would get really and try to attack the fake owl. But their smart,it didn't take long for them to realize it wasn't real. It drove them nuts. We also played a recording,That worked too. So my point is you never know what different things we might be doing next.
DM6156 06-16-2008, 05:36 AM Oh yeah, another thing. I collect shot glasses. I've found that most everywhere I travel, they have a shot glass. State/National parks, Airports, tourist towns, amusement parks.

I have an ongoing project on my back which started in december last year and which will take my spare time every two weeks until christmas this year.
