View Full Version : Fog light grill?
Has anyone opened up the faux grill mesh next to the fog lights? It seems like a great location to put duct work for a CAI. Currently the fog light grill mesh isn't opened up so I was just curious if anyone has tried this?
I was thinking of putting a 3" aluminum adjustable elbow duct that ran from the bottom of the stock airbox to the fog light grill because it would grad allot of air.
Sphinx 07-07-2008, 01:03 PM I thought Bullet was working on something of this nature... maybe it was Markio... I can't remember. I think the main concern was water for this application...
INDaveng 07-07-2008, 01:33 PM i was going to put my fog light where that cuz I dont have the oem fog lights but it might look ugly
i am thinking of installing a whelen tir3 setup where the fog lights go synced to go on with the headlights
markio 07-07-2008, 02:07 PM That is what I modified for my CAI. I used a dremel and opened up the areas inside the faux mesh and my filter sits in that enclosed cavity behind that. I added a new grille and lower grille inserts over the top of it so you can't even see that it is not perfect. Here is a pic of it.

Markio,
That looks pretty good to me. Can that faux mesh piece be removed so that you can dremel it easier?
It's a perfect spot for a CAI the duct is already built into the bumper.
markio 07-07-2008, 03:08 PM I took it out, but it is attached to the center section and the other side as one big piece. It takes some pushing and pulling, but it comes out. Getting it back in kind of sucked but I did it ok.
DM6156 07-07-2008, 10:04 PM I've seen vehicles where they removed the fog lights and installed 2 ducts running to the throttle body/ air filter.
I've seen both going to a Y pipe with single end facing filter
I've seen both pipes facing filter
I've seen single pipe facing the filter.

Hey jmr,
I was already in there and yes it would be an ideal spot for a CAI set up. I was trying to install a duct there a couple of weeks ago and didn't have a lot of room to mount anything deeper that about 4" without hitting either the rad or the rad support. I'm still working on it when time allows, let me know if you come up with any kind of ducting solution.

It looks like the perfect spot for some duct work. I tried to remove the lower grille mesh and ran into problems. The top clips are easy to remove but the bottom ones are really tight and I was afraid of breaking the grille by pushing on the grille too hard. Do the bottom clips just pop off or do you have to twist them?
markio 07-17-2008, 08:37 PM They pop off, but they are tight.
I took it off today and it was tight. It's easy to remove from the car I passed it though that duct on the drivers side. I decided to open up both of the grilles. it took a little time but was worth it. The drivers side is perfect for some type of ram air either for CAI or stock filter box.

wombatsxt 12-10-2008, 03:40 PM I was able to pop off that section and drilled holes in the indented section of the plastic mesh and put in 12 LEDs that flash with my turn signals, and sprayed it down with this truck bed sealer and water proofer rubber stuff. And didnt have to remove the bumper
