There is a cam out for the charger 3.5l and i asked if it would fit the avenger r/t and they said yes it would fit but the only problem is tuning it, when the predator comes out for you guys you can get that cam and put it in the r/t avenger.....and also i was thinking about if u do the swap u could always get a custom tune.....just throwing the idea out there....Look on the charger forumz you will c it there.....

Here is the email!!!!!,,,,,,,

Hi again

Per Stu:

Yeh they will I just dont' know which cars have tuning available. so if tuning is not avaialble the cam would need to be fairly small.

This is great news and once we get tuning capibility, we will be set. The next thing to look into is what happens when we blow up our trannys? lol

hey sphinx. what would adding cams do...?

Well... Let's take a look at this this (http://auto.howstuffworks.com/engine1.htm) website to better understand what a Cam is.

My best understanding is that have a larger cam will allow more air into the cylinder and with the use of a larger fuel injector, this could create a larger bang. This will also create a larger outtake port for the exhaust system. It would be wise to install a larger set of headers, and a decent exhaust system before upgrading the cams. You may not have to use a larger fuel injector, but I am not completely sure.

I am not sure how accurate this post is, and I would like it if someone would correct me if I am wrong... PLEASE... lol.

It would give you more power in higher RPMs, but at the expense of low-end power. (I've got performance cams in my Duster.) Basically, it will shift the power band higher. Extremely high-profile cams will also reduce idle quality and lower idle vacuum. Recalibrating the ECU would be necessary.

Cams are not worth it on this engine, IMO. Have you looked at the engine with the cover off? The front cylinder head is fairly easy to reach, but the rear cylinder head would require removal of the intake manifold. Even then, I'm not sure you could reach it well enough to do a cam swap. My guess is you'd have to pull the engine!

Eh, you're partially right.

A higher lift and duration cam would allow more air into the cylinders at higher RPMs because the valves are open longer. But at the same time, it would create LESS power down low (because the valves are open longer).

So unless you're always in the higher RPM range, cams are actually going to DECREASE the performance of your engine.

Nice! Good find! There are a bunch of GM MAF based piggy back tuners I wonder if one of those could be made to work (Just intercepts the line out from the hotwire and changes it to suit your fuel needs before it hits the computer)!

Chrysler engines use MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensors. They do not use MAF (Mass AirFlow) sensors. The MAP sensor gets messed up by the low manifold vacuum caused by high-profile cams.

Nice find Bullet. I bet there any many here that are happy. Engine mods like that are a little to much for me and I have the 2.4 anyway but I bet there will be some people jumping on this!!!!!!!!
