View Full Version : Is this something you would do?
paul flanders 02-08-2010, 06:15 AM I've been reading the mods you all have been doing, and can you tell me what I can expect if I do this to my car it's a 2.4lt sx
the light pulley---does it give you better acceleration for 70mph+ for overtaking?
k&n air intake also more power?
mega flow also more power and a nice sound?
my car has the auto shift in auto it drops to 3rd at 70 and gets to 80 or so quickly but with the pulley will it stay in 4th?
Rogue 02-08-2010, 10:07 AM Having the pulley on my 2.4L made a world of difference. From 70 to 100+ it still pulls very nicely. RPMs are higher, so it does shift quicker, but at that speed 4Th is where you want it to be. Right in it power curve. The CAI and Exhaust all play a symphony that is not only sweet to your ears, will give you more power then not. I estimate my Avenger with all the mods you mentioned to be pushing over 215HP maybe more.
Sphinx 02-08-2010, 12:23 PM Yeah, those all play a great factor into the overall power!! The pulley will allow the car to spin up much quicker than the stock pulley, so that should help with the torque! Always an improvement to the system if you can add more horsepower, so changing the intake and exhaust will really make an improvement!
paul flanders 02-09-2010, 01:00 AM Thank you for the helping me out. as I travel around 900 ks a week and most of it is on the freeway the speed limit is 70mph so I drive it on cruise control all the time I only have the 4 lanes too use and a lot of drivers sit on 60--65 not much good if your in cruise mood so when I put my foot down and get too 90 to get them out of my way and to have a 2 second gap between me and them I think a bit of up and go would be good as for now I drop it into 2nd and its all good fun love the auto-shift
xSVx IRON MAN 02-09-2010, 12:58 PM The pulley makes a world of difference at high speeds. The car just continues to gain speed with u berly tapping the accelerator. Its great because you can defenitly feel how much faster it is and getting to those higher speeds.

Would I need to reset the computer after installing a light weight pulley? Does it affect the idle significantly?

No and No, its just Plug and PLAY!!!!!!!:Wow1:

I would think no I never did and nothing has happened yet. Also i cant stress it enough if you do do this mod
MAKE SURE YOU PUT THE BELT ON RIGHT
paddymac 02-11-2010, 02:48 PM Ok, the only bad point I've read (other than not putting the belt on right) is the car is more sluggish gong uphill while the air conditioning is on. I don't really understand why it would do that unless the alternator wasn't getting full power. Which could mean - the belt wasn't on right. lol

hmmmmmmmmmmmm that's something this site is so good for great feedback without this knowledge you would be thinking what the is going on thanks
Sphinx 02-17-2010, 11:30 AM Yeah, that doesn't make too much sense paddymac... The belt may slip under a larger load... not sure though... the circumference is the same, and it does not spin any faster... so I don't know why that would be.

Yeah, that's strange. It's the only complaint I've read online though.
I really wish a pulley kit was available for the 3.5. Every time I hear you guys talk about it it makes me want one.
xSVx IRON MAN 02-17-2010, 01:08 PM If anything the only other bad thing I can think of would be the best possibly tearing since its running faster now. But it comes to think Dodge should of tested it running the car at like 100 MPH for a long period of time so running the belt with the new pulley should not be a problem.

I believe you are talking about a under-drive pulley, not a lightweight pulley. These are two different animals. I don't suggest using an under-drive pulley, because this will slow down spinning critical components i.e. alt, PS, AC, and cause more problems then its worth for a street ride. A lightweight pulley, like the one most of us use, is just a lighter weight, and does not under-drive the other pulleys, i.e. A/C, Alt, etc.

I think that only applies to an undersized pulley, a lightweight pulley with the same OEM size won't be affected by this from what i remember
paddymac 02-17-2010, 07:09 PM Thanks for letting me know there are two different designs. It's definately the lightweight pulley I'm after.
TinKnoker 02-17-2010, 10:32 PM Yeah they dont make an underdrive pulley that will fit any way. If they did make one u could run it just fine if the percentage drop isnt too low. 10% or so would have no consequence, except ur power steering being a little "stiffer".
