I really wanted dual exhaust on my 2.4 sxt. I had some free time on my hands so i decided to try it my self. So this is what i did.

1. I removed the HUGE suitcase looking thing from the rear.
2. I cut out a second exhaust hole using the cut out pattern already on the underside of the bumper. I also cut the factory one to match it up.
3. Using door trim ( the kind with a glue bead in it ) i fit it right around the edge to clean the cuts up.
4. Bought a Thrush Welded Muffler ( part #17652 ) from summit racing
5. 4- 90 degree angle pipes (2 1/4 ) and U bolts
6. 2- stainless exhaust tips
7. 2 hangers that use U bolts

put it all together did my adjustments and this is what i got. Now i painted it because i thought it looked better so thats why its black. Also i hate U bolts so i'm going to have everything welded as soon as i have a chance.

total cost was around $100 and it sounds and looks much better than stock

Thanks everyone! I just put a video on youtube for you guys. I took the video when i was done with the install. It was dark out and my girlfriend was nice enough to hold the camera for me. Like i said the video sucks but the sound is all that counts. I was impressed with the sound that came out of a $30 Thrush muffler.

im impreesed and a clear write up step by step. im looking to do the same but just letting the warranty run out first before any mods(oct). il be keeping this one in mind. i like the use of a non stock rear silencer addapted to your own requirements. like you im not a u clamp lover. vw do nice sleeve clamps they look so much nicer ,got them on my old Triumph exhaust.top marks on your exhaust or should i say muffler.

looks/sounds awesome man. Just bought the 2.4l 09 sxt and my bro has the 08 r/t. I definitely want the duals but don't have the skills to do it on my own. Any ideas how much the dealer would charge putting the r/t exhaust on? I figure this would be the cheapest way while avoiding the ricey sound some of those aftermarket exhausts give.

When you put the new muffler and dual exhaust on, did you notice any increase in performance or acceleration? I plan on getting a new muffler and dual exhaust really soon, and i'm hoping it increases my acceleration because i cant seem to find anything to do that...

Excellent job on the exhaust. They should make dual exhaust standard on all R/T's regardless of 3.5L or 2.4L.
