Well I got a KN CAI for 100, and installed it the other day, I really like the throttle response and the sound that it gives to the engine, only took like 45 minutes to put it and that was bc me and a friend spent the night drinking a beer after removing each bolt... but im very satisfied with the way it came out, and according to the dyno sheet it gave me an extra 9 hp lol

Now i just need to get an exhaust, but i cant find a magnaflow cat back with dual tips... anyone have a magnaflow with a dual outlet muffler that has a part number of such muffler

Thanks Phil

I didnt take any during the install but tomorrow i can take some of what it looks like now, the only thing i dont like is there is a gap around the heat shield where the pipe connects to the filter. wouldnt that gap allow heat to enter the intake taking away the point of having a heat shield?

i'd talk to myke66 about that exhaust set up, its very nice and less expensive than buying the full catback system. sounds great too.

i know the gap you're talking about - doesn't make much sense but it still blocks more heat than if it weren't there.

oh btw

Ive got the magnaflow with single in dual out. I dont have the part number though, my local muffler shop had it in stock. I can see if i can find it though, maybe its on the receipt with parts list. I can tell you that its pretty awesome once you get it all installed. My setup had them cutting out the resonator and replacing it with straight pipe then chopping off the muffler and welding the magnaflow in its place with 2 running out the back. Couldnt be happier with it.

Its sounding meaner by the day, lol.

100 is a great price, nice catch.

Im pretty sure you need the gap in order for the heat to dissipate. If it was touching or directly on top of the filter, you'd be either heating up the filter or sucking up the hot air.

The gap is there because your motor rocks when you are on and off the gas. The heat shield is hard mounted to the frame of the car while the engine is soft mounted on isolators. If it was rigidly mounted all around, it would break all the taps off the heatshield. This happens on my truck with the k/n and AEM since it is pretty much hardmounted.

So I know its been a while but here are the pics that I promised all of you!

Looks great, go ahead and paint it if you like, just use a high temp paint as things get toasty in there.

Thanks, I do like it, and it sounds nast with the intake on... now I have to save up some for the exhaust and sound system!!

The K&N does have a nice clean look once installed, nice work. Rep points for the pics.

Is it worth the 700 bones for full magnaflow system, Ive read that a lot of guys just straight pipe it where the resignator is and they like the sound better that way. So should I just find a dual outlet muffler like yours and pipe the rest or actually buy the catback from magnaflow?

Thanks for the rep points, I do like how the KN looks, and I think it would look better once I paint it blue to match

Yeah im one of those guys you are referring to. I cut out the resonator, and just added a dual out magnaflow muffler. Its amazing and sounds great. I'd highly recommend it.

Not to mention, full installed cost me $340, quick a ways off from $700.

Im not sure if a full catback would really make that huge of a difference. There was a noticeable difference from just the muffler and resonator delete. I found a deal on a high flo cat that i may have installed next week. I can let you know how that turns out.

But to be honest, after you get it all installed...upgrading to larger pipe wouldnt be that big of a deal, and still going to cost you less.

Thats what I was thinking, I could just buy the muffler pipe and tips then just install it in my shop. so there wouldnt be any labor charge and would save me a bundle on the price. anyone know what size pipe our exhaust is? and what size/style of tips did you go with myke

The SE 2.4l is 2'' piping. Im not sure what outs they did, i think it may have been 2.25, but if you are doing it yourself you could really pick the outs.

Here's a pic of it installed...

Im not sure what size the tips were, but they were the slanted cut off style tips. They were universal fits. I actually picked them up at walmart and have loved the style since. They were like $12 or soemthing, and they were resonated. I highly recommend resonated tips, it gave it a much smoother tone.

I really like your set up, it looks amazing!! I know the outs i could pick it just dont want to go to big or small and mess with the back pressure or would it not even matter being so far back and being after the muffler?

myke66
10-17-2010, 12:07 PM
Im 99% sure that whatever the outs are wouldn't affect backpressure at all. Besides most mufflers use the same out thats in, or only slightly bigger. I know they had to do some interesting welding to get it to fit on the magnaflow muffler. Here's a shot of how they welded it...

Funny you should ask :) Keep in mine it is a 4cly, so the sound is not gonna be muscle car...but it sounds pretty good.

This is a video i took from inside the car..

Ok sounds like 75% moded V6 and 25% muscle car type of sound at certain points. Nice I like that setup you got, im gonna aim for a setup like yours. Wonder what a flowmaster would sound? Anyways do you have a catback exhaust? Because to me it doesnt look like one, i maybe wrong but i dont see it bolting up from the 2nd cat.

Thats a good idea. I wish i had it for the first shop i took it to. They had no idea what to do, so i went to a full off muffler shop and thats what they came up with. VEry happy with it.

From what i learned in doing my research, a flowmaster will have a lot of popping and sound more ricey due to the 4cyl. The magnaflow kept the tone down and very little if any pop.

No, its not a cat back. Its the stock piping, with the magnaflow welded to the end, and the resonator cut out and replaced with straight pipe.

Im curious to hear how the K&N Intake would sound, im using the spectre, but i think the K&N would sound a lot meaner.

Any chance of a video?

Hmm ok then i'll stick with a magnaflow then and that explains why your car sounds abit like a muscle car at times. very nice. did you notice a difference in performance with that exhaust put on it? and with out the resonator doesnt it sound too loud? just asking since i may go your route since it sounds and looks cool.

With the resonator still on, i could barely tell there was a new muffler on it. Even a magnaflow was will very quiet with it. Without it, it just gives it a nice deep tone, but not even close to being too loud. It wont wake the neightbors, but if they are up, they'd hear ya. :)

And yes, i definetely noticed performance. It got a nice little boost in pickup. I wasnt really expecting much so the change was noticeable.

I was thinking of doing a cat back exhaust but i'll cut off the resonator and have someone weld on my system. Glad there is a notice in power im going to eventually go your route myke. Thanks for the info.

Try getting it on youtube... You may have a file format that is not supported through those other sites. You may need to convert it first and then upload it. I hope that helps.
