My 2008 avenger 3.5L HO has a p2017 code, I changed the Intake runner valve and the tuning valve. With no change. I checked the 6 pin connector to the runner valve and I have 5 volts to the 2 pins #5 and #6 telling me that it is shorted to power I back tracked it to the flat connector just before the ECM. My question is can the ECM be giving pin # 5 the 5 volts. I think it should be reading resistance from the runner valve back to the ecm. The car has 200k on it, but is in great shape except for this problem. Any ideas?

Not sure about the voltage readings and what they should be but the ECM definitely controls the valve.

Most of the diagnostics refer to using a scan tool. Also found this(might help):

For a complete wiring diagram Refer to the Wiring Information

  • When Monitored:

    With the ignition on and battery voltage greater than 10.4 volts.
  • Set Condition:

    The PCM detects that the MFV Position Sensor input voltage is above the maximum acceptable value.

Possible Causes
INTERMITTENT DTC
(F856) 5 VOLT SUPPLY CIRCUIT SHORTED TO VOLTAGE
(K602) MFV SIGNAL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO VOLTAGE
(K602) MFV SIGNAL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO THE (F856) 5 VOLT SUPPLY CIRCUIT
(K602) MFV SIGNAL CIRCUIT OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE
(K900) SENSOR GROUND CIRCUIT OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE
MANIFOLD FLOW VALVE
POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM)

Thanks for the information, I also seen this on the internet but I think applies to the 4 cylinder models which might be slightly different I am not sure if they use a tuning valve along with the runner valve. But the power seems to be cumming from the ECM when I checked it this evening. Sort of leaning towards an ECM. Thanks again
