2010 with a 2.4, when we got this car the fuel gauge didn't work, takes 10- 15 to fill and gas cap code always on with MIL light. Fixed ground wire in between pump and top of fuel sending unit, still really slow to fill and MIL light, got new cap, no change. Noticed behind rear drivers tire the box that the vent tube from tank and filler neck come to has a hole. Fixed hole and cleaned all dirt out of the system, no change. Code says evap leak. Pressure or vacuum build up when cap is taken off. Any help would be appreciated!

There is a tank vent valve on top of the fuel tank that vents to the emissions canister during fill up. It should be open when the car is off so you can fill the tank, otherwise it will fill really slow. If this valve is faulty, it will also cause the gas cap code. When you start the car, a vacuum is drawn on the tank to check the cap. If the valves leaks, the test fails thinking the gas cap is loose or missing. I have seen clogged emissions canisters too. Easy to check. Take the big hose off the canister and try to blow air into the canister through the large connection. If you cannot blow air into the canister, either the canister is clogged, or there may be a fresh air filter on the canister that is clogged.
