I have the 2.4 4spd, and doing a little research, I have learned that the compression ratio for these engines is 10.5:1. It was my understanding, confirmed by many forums and websites that any engine with a CR above 10.0:1 MUST have at least 91 octane.
According to the owners manual, our cars require 87, and using anything higher will not improve performance. The manual also states that light spark knock at idle is normal, which i do notice from time to time but only when running 87. I let her run until the gas light came on and filled up with Shell 91. Perhaps its in my head, but it does feel a bit peppier and a tad quieter.
Is there anything to this? Does Dodge tell us there is no better performance because they want us to buy a more expensive car?
